The Experience of a Lifetime: A Virtual Tour of Chennai’s Underwater Aquarium
The underwater aquarium in Chennai by VGP is the largest and first walk-through aquarium christened as the VGP Marine Kingdom. When you visit this aquarium you have the opportunity to see a wide range of aquatic animals from big to small. Overhead aquariums and life-size tanks house these animals so that you get a larger-than-life experience. This walk-through aquarium is divided into five different zones, each with exotic attractions of its own. Here is a brief description of the 5 zones. Let us take A Virtual Tour of Chennai’s underwater Aquarium
Rainforest
The precipitation and downpours created by rainforests cause the formation of giant rivers, lakes, and streams. These water bodies in turn provide a natural habitat for a wide range of aquatic life. At the “Rainforest” in the Marine Kingdom, you will see fish from the Amazon River of South America, the Zaire of Congo, and many other distant places across the globe.
The Gorge
When ultra-fast running water causes narrow and deep valleys, they are called gorges, and gorges are formed by rivers as opposed to certain habitats forming rivers. These are also smaller canyons with a river or stream running along the bottom presenting a gorgeous sight to behold. At the VGP Marine Kingdom, the Gorge habitat is created with great attention to replicate the rocky valleys in their pristine state. The Gorge zone has hybrid as well as natural artisanal fish varieties mostly from the South Asian region.
Mangrove
Mangrove represents shrubs and trees that grow in subtropical and tropical coastal areas. Opposed to their regular counterparts, their growth is on marine shorelines and mud flats of the estuaries. The root system of the mangrove is cris-crossy with slimy mud providing an ideal home for fish and other organisms. Presently, there are some 110 species reckoned as “mangroves’ and many of them can be found in our Marine Kingdom. Apart from the swimming type you will also see some crawlers when you take a close look at the muddy bottom including the crabs that are hiding.
Coastal
Coasts are the point of transition where one ecosystem joins with the other like the streams or rivers and the land shaking hands with the sea. Compared to the open ocean, these water bodies are not deep. For a variety of plant and animal families, the coastal habitat provides a home that is shallow and brackish. The coastal zone in the VGP Marine Kingdom is designed to mirror this natural habitat and is made of rocks, reefs, and everything coastal.
Deep Ocean
Deep Ocean represents the eeriest zone lying at a depth of 1000 M plus with little to no light. Yet, it has a thriving ecosystem the extreme cold and pressure notwithstanding. At the VGP Marine Kingdom, the deep ocean zone mirrors the mysterious parts of the Ocean. Sans the Oxygen cylinder and the diving suit, this is your opportunity to experience the deep ocean and the wonders it beholds. And, whilst you are there remember to meet the Sharks too.
